Top 5 Autumn Transitional Jackets For Men

Men’s In-Between Season Jackets

It may be still warm during the day, but summer is officially over. With the evenings getting darker and a noticeable chill in the air at either end of the day, we are in the midst of transitioning into the colder autumnal months. Whilst it’s not winter coat time just yet, it is the perfect time to invest in a lighter jacket that works for this in-between weather season.

With many of my personal styling clients a transitional jacket is often a gap in their wardrobe, which they have no idea to fill. If this sounds like you keep scrolling for options to inspire.

Bomber

It’s all in the fabric! Fabric can make the bomber jacket appear either casual, like the grey padded Ralph Lauren version, or give off a sharper ‘modish’ vibe like the navy Zara style. If you were looking for a versatile option, or tended towards a sharper look the Zara style is for you.

Harrington

A Harrington jacket is a lightweight, waist-length jacket that is similar to the bomber, but the collar and slimmer cut make it look just that little bit smarter. It can elevate even the most casual jeans and a tee outfit and check versions add further interest - go a size up if you prefer a relaxed urban look.

Gilet

The gilet although not strictly a jacket is a fantastic layering piece, that deserves its spot in the line up. The wool Sirplus style slots under smart blazers - great for walking to work and if bought slightly oversized can add a contemporary edge to an outfit. Quilted down styles work well with casual outfits, layering over hoodies, knits or sweatshirts..

 Overshirt

The overshirt a cross between a jacket and a shirt – also known as a ‘shacket’. Variations are on sale throughout the year, but the Arket corduroy piece and the Wax London wool jacket, lend themselves towards the colder months. Keep your corduroy for relaxed casual looks and the wool for smart casual and sharper sartorial looks.

Trucker

The trucker is in essence a jean jacket, but one that is constructed from other fabrics rather than solely denim and can be both zipped or buttoned up. First made popular by, yes you guessed it truck drivers in the 1960’s. The Mr P style is a Sherpa trucker style due to the fleece details, making it wearable further into colder months. All in all a great casual jacket.
