How to Style White Jeans
I'm currently writing my style blog during an unexpected April heatwave, and in hot weather, certain items naturally spring to mind - white jeans being one of them. While it might be temporarily hot now, you don't need soaring temperatures to wear them; white jeans can be styled almost all year round. I'd just avoid extremely rainy or wintry days.
As a personal stylist, I am often asked how best to style white jeans. The secret lies in finding the right fit, and they do not have to be a pure, bright white. For many people, an ecru or soft off-white shade can be a more flattering choice.
Here are some looks and styles to inspire you.
Tapered
Great for women with high waist-to-hip ratios, inverted triangles and rectangular body shapes.
From mom to barrel-leg styles, tapered white denim offers a fresh update for summer. Style with a leather jacket, bandana scarf and trainers in cooler weather, and a knitted vest and sandals as temperatures rise, for an effortlessly modern look.
Wide
Suits any body shape.
Wide-leg white jeans have become a go-to for both relaxed and refined outfits. Style them with flat sandals and a simple tee for daytime ease, then switch to heels, a statement top and bold jewellery to elevate the look for evening.
Off-White
Suits everybody. Especially those who have warmer colouring, where white can feel too stark.
Cream and off-white tones offer a softer warmer alternative to a ‘white jean’ look. Pair with a shirt - sleeves rolled up a couple of times - tucked or front tucked and tan accessories.
Straight
Suits any body shape.
Straight-leg white denim is chic, timeless, flattering, and endlessly versatile. Whether you're going with a trench and loafers, or elevating your look with a blazer and heels, this silhouette effortlessly adapts to any style.
The eagle eyed among you might have noticed that I haven't included skinny styles. Tighter jeans tend to crease on the body, and while that's less noticeable with darker denim, every line shows with spray-on white skinnies. If you love a slim silhouette - especially flattering for petites and long legs - take a look at Sézane’s Brut Sexy style in ecru. They hug the hips and bum while skimming flatteringly over the legs.
