Our unpredictable weather can be stormy one day and then the suns warm glow is making it feel like spring is imminent. It’s an issue that crops up every year and one that can be resolved by adding the a crucial layering piece to your wardrobe - the overshirt also known as the shackett.
The shacket is an incredibly useful garment that can be styled up or down and one that I regularly recommend to male personal styling clients. Their standard reply back though is often a bemused ‘A WHAT’? The clue is in the name, it’s an item of clothing that has the design aesthetic of a shirt, coupled with the warmth of a light jacket. It bridges that gap perfectly between seasons. In warmer weather it can be worn as a jacket and in winter it’s light enough to fit under a coat.
A Shacket is also a great opportunity to introduce some colour to into your wardrobe. If the vast majority of your clothes are grey, black and navy, then an overshirt is a great way to add in colour. Khakis and burnt oranges pair well with blues or neutrals and a check instantly adds interest to an outfit.
